Your mind tells you things!!
So often you hear about the power of positive thinking. Don’t you wish there was a way to positively think you healthy and to stop eating rubbish?
I have tried this lately. I have really tried to overcome the part of my brain telling me I can eat Maltesers after breakfast!! (I’m confessing here).
I have actually been good and put a few things I list below, into practice. (BTW- the main reason for really having to make a change is because of my energy levels – when I eat crap, my energy levels are rubbish)
I know for some of you, you have to give things up completely, you just can’t eat things in moderation – its all or nothing. For others you can have something and then leave it – moderation is a thing.
It is really hard to listen to the part of your brain that is telling you to ‘stop now, you’ve had enough’ or ‘if you stop now you will have energy to enjoy the rest of the day’
How, therefore do you listen to that side of the brain and not the side of the brain saying ‘go on have some Maltesers now, they are so yummy & you’ll feel great after’
Which one is your brain telling you??A lot of it is about telling yourself – you really do not need the chocolate/cheese/crisps – whatever you crave. Yes, I know it is SO hard, but you know what, try it as you can honestly do it, just tell yourself you are worth it.
Also, remind yourself that excess sugars can really affect your energy levels. Its a viscous circle: eat high sugar/carbs = low in energy = eat more rubbish & exercise less. Remind yourself you don’t want to do that!
Why don’t you try some of these tips:
- 1st – DO NOT go shopping to the supermarket when hungry.
- Avoid the isle where your most temptations are
- IF you have to buy the kids your temptations – give them to someone else in the family to put away (DON’T then spend hrs looking for them!!)
- IF you really are hungry, bring your lunch or a healthy snack time forward & save your chocolate or sweet thing till you have eaten your meal (better for your blood sugars)
- When you are craving something which is not really very healthy – go and do something else, drink water or go out for a quick walk.
Remember, if you do try this and then go on a binge/splurge, don’t give yourself a hard time and avoid eating a meal – you still need your healthy nutrients & fats.
